Nokia’s first LEED certified factory project was built in Cluj, Romania.
In the middle 0f 2007, the general contractor, GOLDBECK International GmbH, has chosen Thermo Control Srl. to design & build the BMS of the Nokia phone factory – Jucu, Cluj one of the most ambitious and prestigious investment in Eastern Europe.
To ensure the production of phones to the highest standards, the maintenance team must be able to react as soon as possible to resolve any problem in HVAC systems. The implemented BMS by Thermo Control SRL makes this possible by immediately alerting the occurrence of any malfunction.
Additionally this factory was Nokia’s first LEED certified factory.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a worldwide accepted benchmark in construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection, and indoor environmental quality.LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest environmental performance standards. The LEED seal is recognized evidence that a building is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work. This initiative also provides long-term cost savings and adds increased asset value to properties.To earn certification, a project must meet certain prerequisites and performance benchmarks (“credits”) within each category. Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve. The LEED project requires close co-operation with different teams (construction/renovation team, technical team, architects, designers, environmental team etc.) because many of the credits are related to specific areas of expertise.It was a honor for Thermo Control, that our experience helped Nokia to obtain LEED Gold certification.
